Masterclass
Creating an eleven strand plait
Equipment:
• Paddle brush
• Hairbands
Technique:
• To create an eleven strand plait, you need to first create a five strand plait.
•Section off the hair you wish to plait, and create 5 even strands. Leave two even sections either side and section them off.
• With the five strands, always plait the outside piece over and under the middle strand, ultimating between each side.
• Continue plaiting in this way until you reach the end of the hair, then secure with a hairband.

• Take one of the sections on the side of the five strand plait, and section it into three strands as if you were going to create a normal three strand plait.
• Plait this section once normally, but before beginning the next section use your fingers to create a loop in the nearest outside gap in the five strand plait. Now pull the closest strand from the 3 strand plait through this loop, pulling the two plaits together.
• Continue this process until you reach the end of the plait, then repeat on the other side.
• Once you have finished, secure with a hairband then loosen the plait using your fingers so that the plait can be seen properly.

Technique:
• Brush through the models hair.
• Straighten the hair to create more of a sleek effect.
• Apply mousse into the hair, and use the comb to slick it back.
• Apply more mousse onto the comb, and use this to slick back any stray hairs.
• Spray hairspray onto the sides of the head, and use your fingers to apply the golden flakes.
• Spray hairspray on the flakes to secure them, and then hairspray the rest of the hair to finish.

Classic Shapes and Silhouettes
Equipment:
• Paddle brush
• Water spray
• Serum
• Hair dryer (with nozzle)
• Hair straighteners
• Hair bands
• Hair grips
• Pintail comb
• Hairspray
• Wax and serum
Creating sleek and straight hair:
• Brush hair through and dampen using the water spray
• Apply serum from mid-length to the ends, and then use the paddle brush to blow dry the hair completely straight.
• Work your way from the back of the hair to the front, ensuring that you dry the hair with the nozzle facing downwards to make sure that all the hair cuticles are facing the same way so that it creates a smooth, sleek effect.
• After blowdrying the whole hair, use straighteners if neccessary to finish off the look.
Creating a sleek ponytail:
• Brush the hair into a ponytail on the crown of the head.
• Do this by holding the front section of the hair at the crown of the head, then using the brush to add sections into the ponytail until of the hair has been added.
• Run your hairbrush over the section you have pulled up to ensure that there are no bumps, that it is neat and at the crown of the head.
• Secure with a hair band - for thick hair double band to ensure it stays tight. Using a bungee is also useful to ensure that there are no bumps and that it stays in the position you are holding it in.
• Spray the comb with hairspray to tease the baby hairs into the ponytail to create a sleek look.
• To finish apply wax/serum using your hands.
Slicked back look:
• Take a section of hair from the middle front of the head, roughly between the temples. Clip up out of the way for later.
• Take a small section of hair from the sides of the head. Brush the hair through to make sure it is sleek and smooth, and secure with a hair grip. Cross the sections over at the back of the head.
• Unclip the middle section and brush through. Rest it over the grips to create a sleek look. You can also back comb this section slightly to create more of a punk style look.

Natural beauty hair
Equipment:
• Hair dryer and difuser
• Hair brush
• Sea salt spray
• Mousse
• Water spray
• Hair bands
• Hair grips
Technique:
• Brush the hair through.
• Spray the hair with water - but not too much - from mid-length to the ends.
• *It is not necessary to put product on hair that is already really wavy/curly.*
• If the model has fairly straight hair then apply mousse into the hair from mid-lenth to the end to help create volume.
• Spray the hair with sea salt spray.
• Scrunch the hair as it dries - either letting it air dry or by using the hair dryer with difuser by taking each section of hair and scrunching it into the difuser using a medium heat.
• You can use a large barrel curling tong to create extra curls and colume in the hair - but ensure that the curls don't look too perfect to create the more natural messy look.
• Use your fingers to push up the ends and break up the curls.

I found it quite hard creating this look on a dolls head - it would look a lot better on a model.
I then created a hairstyle using the messy textured hair - by creating five strand plaits, and bringing them into a messy chignon.

• Hair grips
Wiggle Plait
• Section off the section of hair you wish to plait using the pin tail comb.
• Do a normal three strand plait, ensuring that it isn't plaited too tight.
• Once you have reached the end of the plait - ensure that you have two strands in one hand and one in the other.
• Push up the plait until yo have the desired 'wiggle' effect.
Waterfall Plait
• Start the plait as if you are starting to create a french plait near the hairline.
• Do two plaits, then drop the middle strand so that it blends in with the rest of the hair.
• Take a new strand from the top of the head, and cross it over the middle strand to continue the braid.
• Continue the process to continue the rest of the braid.
• With the remaining hair, carry on by making a normal three strand plait, and secure with a hair grip.
Slip tie knot
• Take the first section from the hairline, and split into two even sections.
• Tie the two sections into a knot.
• Hand each section to your model for them to hold in each hand.
• Take another seection directly behind the last section. Tie another knot, then hand the strands to your model to hold.
• Take another section and repeat.
• This will leave you with three strands on each side of the head.
• Now take another section, but this time before making the knot take the two strands from the first section and add to this section to create the knot.
• Repeat this process until there are no more sections. There should always be two sections in the models hands.

Volume and lift inspired by 50's, 60's and 70's
I decided to base my look on a 1960s hairstyle, inspired by this picture:

• Sectioning clips
• Hair bands
• Hair grips
• Paddle brush
• Pintail comb
• Hair spray
• Hair spray
Technique:
• Brush through the hair to smooth it out.
• Starting from the top sections of the hair, section the hair into smaller sections and begin to backcomb using the pintail comb. Do this by creating a mess in the section and pushing it down.
• Carry on doing this until all of the outer sections have been backcombed. Ensure that you backcomb towards the middle of the head - e.g for the sections at the bottom you would backcomb above the hair.
• Gently brush through the sections using the paddle brush and bring them over to the side to create a side ponytail.
• Secure with a hairband - double band if the model has very thick hair.
• Use the wide barrelled curling tongs to create curls in the ponytail, then brush them out to make them softer.
• Take a small section from the ponytail and wrap around the hairband to hide it, then secure with hair grip.
• Use hairspray to secure the style in place.
